Koyna hydro electric power station was for the first time deploying a path breaking technology in generating hydro electric power. An event, during its commissioning, was to be organized to felicitate the teams in achieving this milestone. The memento on the occasion had to instill a sense of pride and achievement. It had to convey the team efforts and recognize their achievements.

The design incorporating a copper rod encircling the glass disk symbolizes channeling of water to generate power. A tapered base was designed to establish its location in the Western Ghats of Sahyadri range.
